BILLY PETERSEN: My name is Billy Petersen. I'm a pediatric hematologist oncologist here at UVA Children's Hospital. My focus within pediatric hematology and oncology is in novel therapeutics, or experimental therapies, for children with blood disorders and cancers, as well as supportive care for children with cancers. 

I do clinical research and run clinical trials for those patients. I had a family member go through cancer treatment, who is my nephew and was diagnosed with a kidney cancer. And he's gone through therapy and is doing great now. 

Going through that process as a family member was really striking to me. I feel like I can better appreciate what our patients and families go through. 

The UVA Children's Hospital provides excellent care for all children with all kinds of different diseases and disorders, specifically in pediatric hematology oncology. We have a comprehensive program that's staffed by people that really love what they do and care about people and I believe provide excellent care.
