My name is Chris Campbell, and I'm a Plastic and Re-constructor Surgeon for University of Virginia Health System. I mainly reconstruct acquired defects from cancer, but I specialize in breast cancer reconstruction. So, I'll see women who had been treated for breast cancer after mastectomy, or with chemotherapy, or other treatments. The most rewarding part of my job in reconstructing breast for patients who have suffered from cancer, is making them feel whole again after their journey through medical care and surgical care. And it's often a patient-driven care plan which is also very gratifying. A big part of our research is patient education. So, we're very interested in how much folks understand about the different ways that they can be treated. So, first when I meet a patient we find out what their hobbies are, how far away from the medical center they live with the aim of driving their care. So, if it's medically safe they often will make their decisions about the way that they're breast will be reconstructed, and then we go from there. We're not treating patients the same way for breast cancer that we were two years ago, or four years ago. So, we're only limited by our creativity, so we've been bringing new state of the art treatments to patients, and they benefit from that. Our goal is really to give them a satisfying reconstruction that makes them confident in clothing, feel they can do all the things after surgery that they could do before, and get through the journey of breast cancer care and reconstruction. I think a lot of the uniqueness of not just plastic surgery, but breast cancer care at UVA is in its people. Our reconstructive team it's I think unparalleled in terms of cohesiveness, and scope of practice.
