My name is Dr. Craig Portell. I work in the department of Hematology and Oncology. I mostly do Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas, the major cancer types that I treat. Some of them are very indolent, some of them are very aggressive and require inpatient treatment. We treat the spectrum of those diseases. The best part of my day is really introducing myself to patients, and getting to know them. That first visit's very important to me.I get to know the patients by talking about how they got to this point, why they're here to see me, what is their goal of seeing me, and then get to know them as a person. I think we're a very collaborative team, so from the nurses, from the research team, from the other physicians. We all very much sit down together, talk about the patients, and make decisions as a team, to come up with plans for patients that are focused on not only treating the cancer, but treating the patients in general.
