IÕm Howard Goodkin. IÕm a pediatric neurologist at the University of Virginia. I see all types of children with neurological diseases that can span from seizures to headaches to developmental delay and concussions. I grew up in a medical household. My father was a neurosurgeon, so I was destined to love the brain and taking care of people with brain disorders. Depending on where you look, probably about two to three percent of the worldÕs population have epilepsy, and IÕve focused my career on taking care of those children, trying best to prevent their seizures and improving their quality of life. New patients can expect me to take time to get to know them and their children, and really to figure out a very holistic approach to caring for their childÕs epilepsy, making sure we also touch on ways to improve things at home, improve things at school, and they can just expect that weÕre going to do our best to help them and their children. IÕm passionate about my patients and providing them the best care we can at UVA.
