My name is Jose Oberholzer, and I'm the Director of the Charles O. Strickler Transplant Center at the University of Virginia. So I'm a transplant surgeon and I do see patients who are in need of an organ transplant. In general, patients with liver disease, or kidney disease, or patients with advanced forms of diabetes who may consider receiving a pancreas transplant. If you were a new patient and came to see me, I'd want to know about your family, what you do, what your desires, what your fears are and concerns, and then as a team, we want you to be involved in the decision making, and you're an important part among all the different options what is going to be maybe the best option for you. One aspect that patients realize very quickly when they come to UVA is the passion of the care team we are having here. Yes, we are the number one hospital in Virginia. Yes, we are one of the best public universities in the United States. But those metrics really don't matter if the spirit wouldn't be good, and what you will see here as a patient is that everybody at every single level you will encounter will go well beyond what you could imagine to make sure that you and your family are going to feel safe.
