JONATHAN BLACK: My name's Jonathan Black. I'm a plastic and craniofacial surgeon at the University of Virginia Children's Hospital. I see patients with facial deformities that are either congenital or something that they're born with or from trauma or some kind of an injury. The most common is cleft lip and palate. I chose plastic surgery in general because of my experience treating cleft lip and palate children. It's probably my favorite procedure of all the different procedures that a plastic surgeon sees. It's the entire reason I'm a plastic surgeon. I'm here to take care of these problems. And this is what I'm trained for. This is my whole professional focus. the Reward that you get from fixing someone's cleft lip and spending an hour, an hour and a half doing something is pretty immense. You impact that child's life for the next 95 years. Doing your best can really make a difference.
