Glaucoma is a condition where the optic nerve, ultimately, is damaged usually by high pressure in the eye. So we're trying to determine what the patient's pressure is and then determine whether they've had damage to the optic nerve. That damage ultimately leads to vision loss, usually through visual-field loss starting off in the peripheral vision first and then moving to the central vision. That's why we try to identify it in the earlier stages where the patient still has good vision and we can try to preserve that vision. Any person can develop glaucoma-- all ages, any gender, any ethnic group. There are certain high-risk individuals, those that have had a family history of glaucoma. Treatments are very effective now. They generally can control the glaucoma and halt the progression of glaucoma.
