My name is Avery Buchholz. IÕm a neurosurgeon here at UVA. Most of what I do is complex spine, scoliosis, deformity, revision surgery, but I see patients of all types with spine issues. I developed an interest in medicine growing up, being interested in science, and then I saw how that science could help people. UVAÕs got a great facility. TheyÕve got a great history. TheyÕre known for their quality of care, and thatÕs part of the reason IÕm here. ItÕs an excellent place to be. One thing unique to UVA and the complexity of things we do here is that we treat very sick patients and highly complex patients, and thatÕs really why we are here. ThereÕs a lot of things that we do here that cannot be done at other places in the community, and weÕre here to help those patients and those providers. The most rewarding part of being a physician is when someone has a great outcome, comes back and says thank you, and you can just tell in their face that theyÕre genuinely happy.
