[00:00:01.78] I am a vitreoretinal surgery fellow [00:00:04.04] in the Department of Ophthalmology. [00:00:05.96] I see patients primarily with eye diseases [00:00:09.59] that pertain to the retina, which [00:00:11.51] is sort of the inner wallpaper of the eyeball. [00:00:14.46] I decided I was going to be a physician at age six. [00:00:17.96] I just always liked science. [00:00:20.27] And in medical school is when I definitively [00:00:23.33] decided on ophthalmology because of the surgical technicality [00:00:28.43] and the patients. [00:00:30.32] If you're a new patient at the University of Virginia [00:00:33.60] in the Department of Ophthalmology, [00:00:35.06] you can expect to be dilated for a complete fundus exam; [00:00:39.95] you can expect some photos to be taken, [00:00:42.41] and a very big team of clinicians [00:00:47.39] helping to take care of you. [00:00:49.35] I am passionate about surgery; I am passionate about research, [00:00:53.30] helping drive my field forward. [00:00:55.61] One of the most rewarding parts of being a physician [00:00:58.04] is being able to help someone on one [00:01:01.28] of their very stressful days and recognizing [00:01:04.82] that they are placing a lot of trust in you [00:01:08.15] and being able to carry them and help them through that.
