I am Dana Albon, I am an assistant professor in the department of medicine, division of pulmonary and critical care, at University of Virginia. Fellows will have significantly more opportunities for research and most of the facility members are thriving to improve their education and experience as well. In Cystic Fibrosis for example, we are part of CFTDN, Cystic Fibrosis Therapeutic Development Network, which is a network of CF centers that can enroll patients in clinical trials. In the same time, there is basic research opportunity in the division. It depends on what mentor and who the students or residents or fellows decide to work with. We do have medical students usually on wards when we round on the inpatient service. We also encourage medical students to come to clinic. That usually is like an elective for them. They get to work with residents and fellows and the attendingÕs, so they get different perspectives around pulmonary care. Students are also encouraged to see patients independently and write their own notes and present the patients to the team, with the help of the residents and fellows. Usually the students are very, very good and are very eager to learn. They are very happy to have patient interaction.
