I'm Kathryn Xixis. I am a pediatric neurologist. I see patients most typically with seizures, cerebral palsy, strokes, things of that nature. We also see a lot of headache patients. The reason that I love working with pediatric patients is because I actually get to work with the child. I love getting down on knee and eye level with a kid. I love asking them about things they like to do, about hobbies that they have, about how school is going. The other reason I love neurology and pediatrics together is I have actually a little bag of toys that I use. It is part of our exam. I'm really checking the child to see that their neurologic exam is intact, but fortunately, children often think that it's fun and we're playing, and that's a really fun part of my job. What I love about UVA is the vast amount of knowledge that we have in all different types of professionals. We have really awesome staff in our clinic. We have amazing neurology specific nurses which I think are really valuable to patient care. I personally love to see new patients. I love to learn about them and meet their families as well as them. We are very interested in not only diagnosing people, but we also pride ourselves on following through with patients and helping them to achieve the best state of care that they can.
