My name is Keri Ann Stevenson and I am a psychiatrist and a forensic psychiatrist. Since coming to UVA I have taken over directing our TMS clinic, which is Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation. It is a relatively new procedure for treatment-resistant depression that involves delivering electricity to the brain via a magnet. In my general psychiatry practice, I see adults who are presenting with symptoms of mental illness and I predominantly see patients in the outpatient setting. I'm also really passionate about women's mental health, especially treating mental illness during and after pregnancy. In my forensic practice, I do evaluations for people who are currently engaged in some sort of legal proceedings. I'm really passionate about forensic psychiatry. I think that it's very challenging and that you have to do a very thorough evaluation, be as objective as possible. We as psychiatrists get to see people in their most vulnerable states and they put a lot of faith in us to keep things confidential and to be non-judgmental. I get to do that and see patients improve and be a lot more functional and comfortable in their daily lives. It's just really rewarding to know that I played some role in helping them.
