Hi I'm Brittany Behar. I'm a physician over in the department of plastic surgery and with the hand surgery team. I see patients who have complex wounds and need reconstruction through the plastic surgery clinic, as well as patients who have injuries or problems with their fingers, hands, wrists or forearms over at the hand center. I grew up with two parents who are both physicians and I got to see firsthand the effect that their work had on their patients. I would round with them sometimes when I was a kid, and I'd get to see the joy that they could bring to their patients. And I, at that point, realized that that's what I wanted to do too, was be able to help and fix people and make their lives better. My sister also had a chronic illness and so I've been on both sides of the fence. Both the family member who was sick and then also the physician and so I think that to me treating patients like they're my family, treating them like they're people I know and that I care about is really important to me and something that I try to extend to all my patients. Here at UVA, everyone's focus is on the best outcome possible and getting the patients as better as possible as quickly as possible and so everyone has that united goal that will focus us and then I think that's what makes UVA unique.
