Hi, I'm Denise Annie Way. I'm a family doctor and I see patients of all ages. And I am the lead physician for UVA's Adult Cancer Survivorship Clinic. I became interested in medicine because I grew up with family members who unfortunately experienced various diseases. By watching them endure their diagnosis and watching them suffer, really inspired curiosity in me. I wanted to understand their disease process, and work towards solutions and try to help fix things. I chose family medicine because I really thrive in the outpatient setting. I love the diversity that family medicine has to offer. We see all disease types. We see all ages of patients, and I just really thrive in that environment that includes the whole family. I'm a long-time practitioner of yoga and meditation, and that inspired me to do a fellowship in integrative medicine. That has really helped shape who I am and how I work with patients. I have a deep passion for how the body and the mind work together and how patients can achieve optimal health, even though they might have disease.
