Catherine Casey: My name is Catherine Casey, and I'm a physician specializing in family medicine. Right now, I'm primarily known for my LGBTQ patient care and the transgender patient care. Patients in the LGBTQ group aren't guaranteed safe, competent, knowledgeable care everywhere they go. So having had many friends and family who are LGBTQ, it was really important to me, personally, to make sure that I could serve that community. I think the other part is that there are some guidelines that are slightly different depending on each person's age and health status. Patients who are lesbian, gay, or bisexual, those terms refer to somebody's sexual orientation. Patients who are transgender, that refers to somebody's gender identity. And they're two completely separate things with different health ramifications. Transgender patients often require multi-specialty care, including care from an endocrinologist if they're taking hormones, from surgeons if they're pursuing surgery, and from primary care doctors. So one of the advantages of our adult transgender clinic is that we offer all of those services in one location. And patients can book an appointment to see us back to back if they like. They can also access mental health services, and hopefully in the future, will be able to access more psychiatric services as well.
