Hi, my name is Dr. Necrisha Roach, and I'm a Vascular Neurologist here at UVA. So as a Vascular Neurologist,I primarily see patients who are diagnosed with a stroke, but Vascular Neurology spans more than just strokes,it's also patients who suffer with any sort of disease involving the blood vessels of the head and neck region. When was the first time they noticed a symptom? When was the first time family members noticed something? And so, the first encounter was really a very lengthy one because I'm trying to gather as much data and as much history as possible. Letting them know that based on the data that I collect from all of the imaging studies and the labs will help me figure out what the next best step would be,and I also stress the importance of including all of their other providers in that conversation,so that we're all on the same page. So, one of the things that really drew me to Neurology was the ability to help patients with very complex medical conditions, and so I think these patients are medically complex and they are challenging. So, I like the challenge of not knowing what exactly is going to be waiting for me when I get down to the emergency department.
