The reason why I think it is so important to have a collaboration between UVA and the Children's Hospital of Richmond at VCU is because we want to be able to provide the very best care for patients. We want to work together because our whole goal is to ensure that no patient leaves this area, the state, to have congenital heart care. The congenital heart program is kind of the epitome of a team effort where it's takes intensive care, it takes anesthesia, pediatric cardiology, all aspects of the system to take care of our patients. We've proven with our outcomes that the way that we're taking care of patients pre, intra, postoperatively, in the cath lab and whatnot, it works to standardize that and do the exact same thing at VCU is very exciting. I'm the luckiest person in the world to be able to do what I do. I wake up in the morning. I can't wait to go to work.
