Hi, I'm Catarina Regis. I'm a nephrologist here at UVA. The good thing about nephrology that really made me pursue that career is that you can see the patients in the office and then when in the hospital you can continue to care for them. And then even if they evolve to progress to dialysis, which I always try to avoid that, we can always follow them and try to make a better healthy lifestyle and keep their independence.

I'm very passionate about general nephrology as the entire field. I like to see patients that are acute kidney injury patients that have just some metabolic disturbance or patients that are on dialysis, for example. Or even patients that have more complex disease like autoimmune disease that affect many organs of the bodies.

I believe that at UVA, we can provide the highest quality of care to our patients. Everybody that is involved at UVA seems like they try to pursue some really important values here. Like compassion and high quality care for our patients. That's what I think UVA separates from the rest.
