A Recognized Leader in Cancer Care

As a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center, we're leaders in cancer treatments and research. Only elite cancer programs in the U.S. have received this recognition, and we have the first one located in Virginia. We stay ahead of the curve in cancer research, prevention, detection, and treatment. See what being a Comprehensive Cancer Center means for you.

U.S. News & World Report has named our cancer services as “high performing.” This puts us in the top 10% of the country. Our lung cancer surgery, colon cancer surgery, and ovarian cancer surgery procedures are also ranked as “high performing.” We're also the only cancer center in Virginia listed in Becker’s 100 hospitals and health systems with great oncology programs.

Outreach to the Community

Community collaborations address health disparities and barriers to care through patient advisory groups and public programs. Our population health projects target high rates of lung, cervical, and colon cancer in Appalachia.

Teaching the Next Generation

The UVA School of Medicine offers fellowships in blood cancers, immunology, and more. Graduates leave UVA with a respect for both fundamental and clinical research. They know how lab work translates into patient care and prevention.
