Remote Area Medical Clinic

Since 1999, UVA Health System team members, including students from the Schools of Medicine and Nursing, volunteered in the three-day Remote Area Medical (RAM) clinic, bringing primary and speciality care, health education, and support for dental care to hundreds of community members from across rural Southwest Virginia.

Expanding Care

In addition to having a volunteer presence at RAM clinic each year, UVA Health System serves the communities in Southwest Virginia year-round:

  • Endocrinologists offer quarterly clinics in conjunction with the Health Wagon, a free mobile health clinic already serving the region.
  • Our mobile mammography van travels the region’s back roads to offer digital mammography services at least once a month.
  • Our oncologists use telemedicine to help local nurse practitioners achieve certification in advanced procedures.
