Bio & Overview
Andrew Parsons, MD, MPH, is an associate professor of medicine in the UVA Division of Hospital Medicine, where he serves as director of research and academic advancement. He sees patients in the hospital with a wide variety of illnesses, both before and after surgery.
Parsons is actively involved in training future physicians. He is the Associate Dean for Clinical Competency for the UVA School of Medicine. Parsons’ research is focused on clinical reasoning and fostering the growth of medical leaders through coaching and remediation. He leads the Clinical Reasoning Research Collaborative (CRRC) at UVA. His work has led to publications in high-impact journals and national and international workshops on these topics. He is currently a PhD candidate in the School of Health Professions Education at Maastricht University in the Netherlands. He is also associate editor for the journal Diagnosis.
Originally from Tennessee, Parsons earned a Master of Public Health, focusing on global health and epidemiology, at Emory University before attending East Tennessee State University for medical school. He completed residency training at UVA.
His wife, Laura Parsons, MD, MPH, is in the OB-GYN department at the University of Virginia. They enjoy spending time with their daughter, Grayce, along with traveling, cooking, and trying new local restaurants.
