Bio & Overview

Ava G. Chappell, MD, is a board-certified hand and microvascular plastic surgeon. Her reconstructive specialties include peripheral nerve, spasticity, wrist fractures, and complex head to toe wound reconstruction. She also treats neuropathic pain, body contouring, and lymphedema.

“I treat every patient as the unique individual that they are, not just a symptom or a diagnosis,” she says. “Since I was a child, I knew I wanted to be a healer. My purpose is to care for others and as a surgeon, I can directly improve the quality of life of my patients.”

Dr. Chappell was raised in New England. She received her undergraduate degree from McGill University in Montreal and earned her medical degree from the University of Massachusetts. She completed a plastic surgery residency at Northwestern University and a hand surgery fellowship at the Mayo Clinic.

So Dr Chappell and her student doctor and another young woman with her were just phenomenal. The student doctor related everything I said from our time alone and I could she was listening and related things correctly to the Dr Chappell. They all seemed before compassionate and actively listened. Dr Chappell also used my visit to quiz the student about what she was doing. She answered every question correctly. They all seem like very smart and capable and genuinely compassionate people. Dr Chappell kept asking if there was anything more they could do for me. As I understood even resources outside of their norm to just help. She came off as an extremely kind person. Very confident in what she was doing. Showed interest and again listened very well. Explained things to me very well. I did not feel rushed or like any of them were in a super big hurry to move on down the conveyor line to the next patient. I didn't feel unheard or unseen. Nothing but good things to say about everyone I ran into. Also the X-ray tech was very nice. Everyone from beginning to end was just awesome.

Visit was 3rd follow up visit after carpel tunnel surgery. Most interaction has been with nurse, resident. Very little interaction with surgeon. Always very friendly but seems rushed. Realize previous staff interaction meant to inform surgeon prior to entering room.
