Brenda Lee J Hudson, AG-ACNP

Brenda Hudson is a doctoral-prepared, board-certified adult gerontology acute care nurse practitioner. She specializes in caring for thoracic and cardiovascular surgery patients at UVA Health.

“The comprehensive services that I provide are centered around evidenced-based medicine, patient safety, patient beliefs and traditions,” she says. “I am committed to collaborating with physicians, ancillary healthcare teams, patients and their families to provide exemplary service. My ultimate goal is to assist patients in recovering from surgery so that they can return home and enjoy life.”

Brenda earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, and spent more than 26 years as a registered nurse working in surgical units and intensive care units in hospitals across the U.S.

She went on to pursue her Master’s of Science in Nursing at UVA, and after spending decades in the field, she completed a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree at the University of North Florida in Jacksonville.

Brenda was raised by the sea in Miami, Florida, and enjoyed spending summers with family in the Bahamas, learning how to cook island and Southern cuisines.

It was her beloved grandmother who inspired her to pursue a career in nursing as many other women in her family had done. Yet, Brenda took her career to an advanced level. “I was the first in my family to earn triple degrees in the scientific practice of nursing,” she says.

In her free time, Brenda enjoys traveling, watching sci-fi movies, reading, and spending time with family and friends.
