Bio & Overview

As an optometrist, Chelsea Johnson, OD, specializes in refractive perioperative care, contact lens-related services, and treatment of eye infections, injuries and disease. Residency trained in ocular disease and primary care optometry, she is experienced in fitting specialty and non-specialty contact lenses, as well as binocular vision and low vision exams.

Dr. Johnson co-manages systemic conditions along with other healthcare providers such as primary care physicians, rheumatologists, and neurologists.

She strives to treat her patients like family members. She provides responsive and respectful care for each patient’s unique needs and values to help guide treatment decisions. “I am excited to build a life-long relationship with each new patient,” says Dr. Johnson.

A native of Bloomsburg, Pennsylvania, Dr. Johnson is a fourth-generation optometrist, following in the footsteps of her late father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. After earning a bachelor’s degree from Lock Haven University, she graduated from Pennsylvania College of Optometry.

Before joining UVA in April 2022, Dr. Johnson was an associate optometrist at Carolina Eyecare Physicians in Mount Pleasant, South Carolina, where she oversaw LASIK and cataract clinics. She previously practiced at Primary Eyecare in Charlottesville.

I'm sorry to say that my brother, the patient, doesn't go online, and I waited for him in the waiting room. I don't know how the care provider did, but he seemed happy with his meeting. It was a routine eye exam with no issues.

No one introduced themselves to me so did not know name or position of anyone. The student (found out after I asked) took a long time with the examination compared to the doctor ( I assumed). Did they do the same examination? Basing answers to question on last person ( doctor?) I talked to.
