Meet Orthopedic Surgeon Craig Reigel, MD
Hi, my name is Craig Reigel. I'm an orthopedic surgeon in Culpeper for UVA Health. So orthopedics is the care of the musculoskeletal system. So all kinds of problems from arthritic problems, ligament and joint injuries, and arthritis. A lot of those problems are treated non-surgically and some are treated surgically. My approach to patient care has been to involve them in the decision making. So I try to be very complete in the description of what their problem was, and then lay out their treatment options and the pluses and minuses of each of those options. So even if they don't have any technical expertise in orthopedics, they can make an informed, intelligent decision about their own care and then we can arrive at an agreement of where we should go next. My favorite part of my job is where I am able to put someone back into their pre-injury or previous activity level. That can be after a surgery, but even non-surgically, if as far as their pain level is concerned or their activity level is concerned, getting back to what they want to do. That is the most rewarding.
