Bio & Overview
David S. Rubendall, DO, specializes in treating the full spectrum of patients who require rehabilitation, including those with spinal cord injuries, traumatic brain injury, stroke, neuromuscular and musculoskeletal conditions. He also provides non-operative outpatient treatment to adolescents and adults with sports injuries or those who require spinal or neuromuscular care. Rubendall utilizes a variety of hands-on Osteopathic Manual Medicine (OMM) techniques, including counterstrain physical therapy, myofascial release, muscle energy and high-velocity, low-amplitude maneuvers.
Rubendall received his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Chicago College of Osteopathic Medicine in Downers Grove, Illinois. He then completed his physical medicine and rehabilitation residency training at the Residency Rehabilitation Foundation, Inc. in Wheaton, Illinois.
In addition to patient care, Rubendall is actively involved in resident education and training, as well as employee health. He is the medical director of UVA WorkMed Program. This is a comprehensive program that the university utilizes to meet the occupational medical needs of their employees. In this role, Rubendall provides treatment for occupational injuries, employment physicals, and fitness for duty examinations. He also oversees resident clinical rotations, providing hands-on training on procedures such as electromyography testing, injections and osteopathic manipulation.
Rubendall is a member of the Albemarle County Department of Fire Rescue Wellness and Fitness Steering Team. In this role, he helps provide direction and insight for firefighter wellness and fitness programs.
