Highlights
Dr. Dana Redick profile video
- I'm Dana Redick. I'm one of the general obstetricians and gynecologists here at the University of Virginia. My particular interest is in uterine fibroids. It's very common, so all OBGYNs happen to see patients with uterine fibroids but for me in particular had been looking to provide patients the option across a really broad range of treatments from medical management to surgery to procedure-based treatments. I do a lot of teaching of our medical students and residents for going out in the community, and I want them to know here are all the different ways to treat fibroids. One of the things that I do as far as research is we look at patient outcomes in people with fibroids, and I've also done a fair amount of research in thinking about teaching in the operating room or how to do minimally-invasive surgery or laparoscopic surgery. I love interacting with people. I always learn something neat and exciting for my patients, sometimes about fibroids but oftentimes about other things. But there's nothing more rewarding than having someone come in and have a problem. Go through them, talk to them, see what works best. And then have them come back after the treatment and say I feel so much better. I mean that's just-- you can't beat that feeling to have someone had a problem, fix it, and they're really happy with the result.
