Bio & Overview

Dana C. Rice, MD, FACS, is a board-certified urologist who has practiced in Northern Virginia since 2013. Her skill set includes robotic surgery, endoscopy, stone management, and BPH treatments, including Urolift Center of Excellence and Aquablation. She also provides general urologic care (kidneys, bladder, prostate, or other parts of the urinary or reproductive system). She has been a top doctor in the Washingtonian Magazine since 2017.

Rice grew up in Massachusetts and earned her undergraduate degree at the University of Massachusetts Amherst. She earned her medical degree and completed her postgraduate residency at George Washington University. She has co-authored chapters on urinary tract infections and pediatric uroradiology. She has also been published in a handful of other urologic articles. Her approach to patient care includes good communication and education. “Patients should have a full understanding of all of their options,” she says. “Having solid, evidence-based medicine and a trusting doctor relationship helps patients thrive, even when they experience complex medical issues,” she says.

Rice is also passionate about making health information accessible. She developed a UTI tracker app to help educate patients and physicians with a goal of providing accurate, easily accessible information in one cohesive program. She consults within the tech space to help provide easy, accurate health information to patients. She has contributed to or been featured in numerous media outlets, such as Cosmo, Buzzfeed, Romper, E Health Radio, Northern Virginia Magazine, and Ashley Iaconetti’s I Don’t Get It podcast. She lives in Mclean with her husband and two children. They enjoy sports and outdoor activities.

I felt pressured to undergo several procedures without understanding their risks and benefits.

Dr. Rice explained all of my options for treatment and made me very comfortable when explaining

I felt very comfortable with Dr Rice. She was very pleasant & spoke in terms I could understand. I appreciated that she got the procedure I needed scheduled in her earliest available opening to minimize the length of time I would have to deal with pain or discomfort. As my visit was ending, I found her description of my kidney stone as "a ticking time bomb" unnecessarily dramatic. That choice of words could easily instill fear in a patient, but I chose not to let it. If what she said is really the case, then an explanation as to what could potentially happen should follow those words along with whatever level of assurance she can offer.
