Bio & Overview
As a family nurse practitioner, Danielle Tyler, FNP-C, BSN, RN, PMGT-BC, has expertise in caring for patients of all ages, including those with critical care needs and a wide range of surgical and trauma needs.
Danielle is passionate about treating the whole person and acting as an advocate for her patients and their families.
“I approach working with patients in a holistic manner, ensuring to treat each patient individually,” Danielle says.
Growing up in a rural community as one of four daughters, Danielle comes from a close-knit family whose experiences with serious illnesses inspired her interest in a nursing career. For example, her grandfather had major heart surgery at UVA Health, and her youngest sister spent some time in the hospital’s neonatal intensive care unit (NICU).
Understanding the toll these events have on patients as well as their families, Danielle says, “I decided to become a nurse practitioner after working as a bedside RN for six years because I wanted to be present in my patients’ lives in a larger capacity.”
Danielle began working at UVA Health as a patient care technician in the float pool when she was just 18 years old. She earned her bachelor of science in nursing degree from UVA in 2017. Danielle went on to earn her master in nursing and family nurse practitioner degrees from Columbus State University in Georgia in 2022.
Outside of work, Danielle enjoys cooking. She wants her patients to know, “If I were not a provider, I would be a chef.”
