Bio & Overview
David Ling, MD, is board-certified in internal medicine, hospice and palliative medicine and clinical informatics. His patient care responsibilities focus on inpatient palliative care consultation and his clinical interests include quality measurement in hospice and palliative care.
In addition to his clinical duties, Ling practices as a clinical informatics specialist, ensuring the consistent use of information technology to improve patient care. He is also involved in research examining ways to leverage clinical data to enhance patient care.
Born in Hong Kong, Ling attended Cornell University, where he received his undergraduate degree in chemistry. After completing medical school at George Washington University in 1992, he practiced hospital medicine at two community hospitals before joining the UVA faculty in 2008.
Married for 26 years, Ling has two sons. In his free time, he enjoys digital photography and lifelong learning; he is always taking an online class of some kind.
