Dr. Elisa Trowbridge loves the challenges and rewards of working with patients with pelvic floor disorders.
Dr. Trowbridge received her medical degree at the University of Maryland and OB/GYN residency training at Emory University. She completed her fellowship training in uro-gynecology at the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor. In addition to her clinical activities, Dr. Trowbridge has performed research on the causes and treatment of fecal incontinence, pelvic prolapse and urinary incontinence. She enjoys working with women of all ages, but particularly women ages 50 and up.

Meet Elisa Trowbridge, MD
My name's Elisa Trowbridge, I'm a urogynecologist at the University of Virginia, and I am the medical director and division director of the Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery Clinic. As a specialist in urogynecology, I see women with pelvic floor disorders, which includes women with urinary incontinence, pelvic organ prolapse, and bowel dysfunction. What I'm passionate about is quality care for women and patient safety. And as a result of this passion, starting in 2015, UVA initiated and implemented enhanced recovery protocols after surgeries. These protocols really enhance the patient experience before, during, and after surgery, and that includes a lot of education for the patient, decreasing our use of narcotics and other medications. I love it when a patient tells me that they had not been able to travel, had not been able to attend their child's soccer game, run, exercise, be intimate with a partner, and now, after the surgery I've done for them, I've completely changed their lives and given them their self-esteem, their self-worth back. I believe we provide excellent, safe care for our patients at University of Virginia because we have physicians, nurses, and staff that are compassionate and very dedicated to our patients.
