Bio & Overview

Eric M. Davis, MD, received his medical degree from University of Virginia. He completed a residency in internal medicine and was chief resident at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston. He then pursued a fellowship in pulmonary and critical care at the University of Pittsburgh, followed by a final year of training in the sleep fellowship program at University of Pennsylvania.

Davis returned to UVA in 2014 as an assistant professor of medicine. Today, he is a pulmonary and critical care physician specializing in caring for patients with sleep disorders, including sleep apnea, narcolepsy, insomnia and parasomnias. Additionally, he is involved in the co-management of patients with neuromuscular weakness as it pertains to its effect on sleep and breathing.

From a research perspective, Davis is interested in the impact sleep apnea has on memory impairment and he is partnering with colleagues in neurology and sleep medicine in a clinical research study investigating this relationship.

Dr. Davis is the single best doctor I've ever had. I see him every six months, and I'm always impressed by how well he remembers details from my last visit. I have struggled with severe sleep problems for years, and before my most recent visit I was somewhat despairing, feeling as if I had tried everything already and run out of options. Dr. Davis was able to suggest not just one but three new options for possible treatments, and he explained each of them clearly. I was also grateful, as always, for his "bedside manner": he is the kind of doctor who seems truly invested in his patients.
