Highlights
Meet Neurologist Francesco Michelassi, MD
My name is Francesco Michelassi. I am a neurologist at UVA Health. I specialize in neuromuscular medicine, and I see patients whose problems arise from anywhere from the spinal cord out into the peripheral nerves and the muscles. When you come to see me, I'm going to take a very detailed history to try to understand when your problem started, what exactly your problem is, and which parts of your body it affects. I think someone should come to neurology at UVA Health because what you're going to get is a really thorough workup and really thoughtful care. And so we're not just going to look at you and say, "Well, I think you've got this," and then stop there. We're really going to think about all of the different things that it could be, from the most likely to the least likely, and then we're going to really work with you to come up with the right treatment plan for you. And one thing that especially sets us apart from other places is that we are willing to say, "You know what? I'm a bit stumped on this one." When that happens, we go to our colleagues and we say, "What do you think about this?" And we really go around and we ask what other people think. And in that way, you're not just getting one person's opinion, you really are getting the department and the division's opinion.
