Bio & Overview

As a physical therapist, Ian Whitney, PT, specializes in rehabilitating competitive and recreational athletes, treating general orthopedic conditions, promoting lifelong injury prevention, and improving patients’ quality of life.

With each patient encounter, Ian takes an individualized and holistic approach to care.

“Each patient is a unique individual with their own experiences, culture, and goals,” Ian says. “This approach ensures that each patient is given a treatment plan that is specific to them, tailored to what they hope to achieve through physical therapy. I ultimately hope to provide each patient I encounter with the tools they need for a fuller, happier, and healthier life through improved mobility, strength, and a desire to stay active.”

A native of Manassas, Virginia, Ian grew up playing sports – his favorites were football, basketball, and lacrosse. After sustaining a sports-related injury at 13 years old, Ian became a physical therapy patient. He immediately developed an interest in the profession.

“I knew this was the career I wanted to devote my life to after realizing the impact physical therapists can make on a patient’s quality of life, especially through teaching injury preventative measures,” Ian says.

After earning a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology with an exercise science concentration from California State University, Monterey Bay, in 2018, Ian earned his doctor of physical therapy degree from Shenandoah University in 2022. He completed his residency at the UVA Orthopedic Center Therapy Services through the Virginia Orthopedic Manual Physical Therapy Institute.

Passionate about his profession, Ian is committed to collaborating with each patient to ensure they reach their goals.

”I will always devote 100% of my time and attention towards providing patients with the best physical therapy treatment they need,” Ian says. “I have a tremendous passion for this profession and truly want to help each patient I come across to the best of my ability.”
