Jennifer M. Schach, BSN, RN, CCRN, is a certified nurse practitioner specializing in neurology with a focus on epilepsy. She obtained her Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner degree from UVA in May of 2022. She is now a doctoral candidate of nursing practice, with plans to graduate in 2025.
Jennifer’s aspirations to become a nurse began after she was hospitalized as a teen. “The skillful communication, empathy, and individualized care that the nurses gave me solidified my desire to be a registered nurse,” she says. “Over the years, I felt I needed more of a challenge, and I wanted continued education, which led me to becoming a nurse practitioner.”
Jennifer chose to care for patients in the clinic setting because she is “interested in developing longitudinal relationships with patients and caring for them over their lifespan,” she says.
A child of military parents, Jennifer grew up appreciating travel, culture, and good food. Her family settled in Pennsylvania, and she received her nursing degree from Duquesne University in Pittsburgh prior to pursuing an advanced degree at UVA.

I would recommend the excellence of UVA anytime.
I was extremely impressed by both NP's that we saw today.
This provider gave me more time and information about my epilepsy than any other physician ever has in the visits that I have had with her. She made recommendations for the Epilepsy Foundation of VA to meet with my workplace to educate the team about my condition. She took the time to explain the reason for an increase in medication after a recent seizure.
She's great!
I wasn't told I needed to schedule my MRI and X-ray myself.
This was our transition appointment from pediatrics to adult.
