Bio & Overview
Dr. Schectman is a primary care physician and associate professor of medicine at UVA. He was born and raised in New York and attended Boston University's six-year BA/MD program. After training in internal medicine at Montefiore Hospital in New York City, he served in the National Health Service Corps in Alabama. He then moved to Washington, D.C., to complete a fellowship in internal medicine and earn a master’s in public health at George Washington University. He served on the faculty at George Washington for eleven years, before joining UVA in 2000.
Dr. Schectman has been a regular volunteer at the Charlottesville Free Clinic for almost two decades. He has two daughters who mostly grew up in Charlottesville and have enjoyed their time here, as has his wife.
