Kathleen Haden is a certified adult nurse practitioner who has worked in the field of oncology since 1985.
After finishing her undergraduate degree at The Catholic University of America, she worked for over 8 years at the National Cancer Institute at NIH in Bethesda, MD. During her years at NIH, she received her masters of science in nursing through George Mason University and George Washington University completed in 1992.
Kathleen has worked with a variety of oncology diseases at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York, Hematology Oncology Patient Enterprises (HOPE) private medical oncology practice in Charlottesville, VA and the University of Virginia. Kathleen is actively involved in clinical research, comprehensive patient care, and adjunct faculty in the School of Nursing. She helps patients asses their risk of pancreatic cancer with the High Risk Pancreatic Cancer Screening Program.

Meet Kathleen Haden, ANP
My name is Kathleen Haden. I'm an Adult Nurse Practitioner in the Surgical Oncology Department at the University of Virginia. I'm a Nurse Practitioner with the melanoma team at the University of Virginia, caring for those with newly diagnosed melanoma, and I also run a high-risk pancreatic screening program. As a nurse practitioner, I believe we add a different level of care to look at the patient: body, mind, and soul, and really concentrate not only of the treatment of the disease and diagnosis, but really being with the patient, educating them, and helping them navigate through a very difficult situation. I think when patients walk into a room, I want to be very open, honest. I like to connect on many different levels where they are emotionally, physically, and I want them to feel like they're in their own living room. I think the care at UVA is remarkable in the sense there are many people looking at one particular case, meaning one patient, and now that we have our National Cancer Institute Designation as a comprehensive cancer program, it just makes sense to get the best care when multiple people looking at each patient's cancer and developing a specific treatment plan.
