Lauren K Young, FNP
Family Medicine
Bio & Overview
As a nurse practitioner, Lauren Young provides primary care to patients of all ages. She has a special interest in women's health and mental health.
“I strive to provide each patient with the utmost care, dignity, nurture, and evidence-based practice. Trust and respect are interwoven in my philosophy as a provider,” Lauren says.
She adds, “Patient-centered care is a hallmark of my personal philosophy. I believe in hearing patients' voices and concerns. No matter a patient’s race, ethnicity, religious beliefs, cultural beliefs, socioeconomic status, or sexual orientation, all deserve access to high quality care without judgement.”
Lauren graduated with her BSN (Bachelor of Science in Nursing) from the University of Virginia. She started her healthcare career in the main operating room on the pediatrics team. She moved to inpatient mother/baby care for a couple years. Then she worked at Northridge University Physicians Women's Clinic as she finished her FNP (Family Nurse Practitioner) degree at UVA School of Nursing.
She is certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners (AANP).
Lauren grew up in the area surrounding Charlottesville. She notes that growing up in a rural area meant a limited number of providers and resources. She says, “I was a patient at the local health department and was seen by a family nurse practitioner. She inspired and encouraged me to eventually get my MSN (master’s degree in nursing) and care for patients in a rural area to expand healthcare access.”
Lauren played soccer and ran cross country in high school. “I have always been interested in healthcare and was a die-hard Wahoo from the beginning. I met my now husband at 14 and we have been together since. We eloped in March 2020 after we were unable to have our wedding due to COVID-19 restrictions.”
Lauren enjoys running local races for charity. She and her husband live in Albemarle and have two cats.
