Bio & Overview

Matthew Goodman, MD, is an associate professor of internal medicine. He practices general internal medicine at University Physicians Charlottesville, and is an attending physician at University Medical Associates and on the inpatient general internal medicine service at UVA Hospital. He is an instructor in the mindfulness program of the Division of General Medicine.

Dr. Goodman earned his undergraduate degree from Harvard College and his medical degree from Southwestern Medical School in Dallas, Texas. He came to UVA for his residency in internal medicine, and joined the faculty in 1993.

Dr. Goodman is a wonderful internist/PCP! I will miss him a lot! He has done an excellent job with caring for me and he communicates with me regarding labs, vaccines, other tests, and concerns.

Dr Goodman is the best doctor ever! He is compassionate, caring, inclusive and smart. He has been my PCP for many years. He has not only guided and helped me through many hard physical and emotional times. He has saved my life many times. Without him I would not still be as active as I am (or alive) at the age of 79! Thank you Matt there is no one that equals you and I will miss you so very much!

Dr. Goodman is an excellent physician! He is knowledgeable, conscientious, kind and respectful. It has been a privilege to have him as my primary care physician for many years. Although I am sorry to learn he is retiring from his clinical duties, I am happy to learn he will continue to teach at UVA and to know future physicians will continue to benefit from his knowledge and experience.
