Bio & Overview
Melinda Jenkins is a nurse practitioner certified in adult gerontology acute care.
Her clinical focus is caring for patients undergoing bariatric surgery.
“I'm very excited to work with bariatric patients because they are focusing on their health and making lifestyle changes to enhance their lives,” she says.
Jenkins attended nursing school at James Madison University and worked for a decade in multiple healthcare settings, including the intensive care unit (ICU) and emergency department, prior to pursuing her Master of Science in Nursing degree at UVA.
“I really enjoyed the hospital setting and wanted to expand my practice to the next level,” Jenkins says.
Raised by her grandparents, Jenkins says they have influenced her own approach to patient care. “As an adult, I have taken my grandparents to a lot of provider appointments,” she says.
“I want to treat patients how I would want myself and my family to be treated. Patients need to be heard and treated with respect. I want patients to know that I care about their well-being.”
Jenkins was a high school athlete and, in her free time, she still loves playing and watching sports like volleyball, basketball and softball.
