Dr. Michael Keng holds a clinical faculty appointment in Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology at UVA Comprehensive Cancer Center. He practices at the Emily Couric Clinical Cancer Center in Charlottesville and serves as an inpatient hematologist at UVA Hospital. His clinical areas of interest are: myelodysplastic syndromes, myeloproliferative disorders, acute myeloid leukemia, chronic myeloid leukemia, acute lymphoid leukemia, and aplastic anemia. He attended medical school at Michigan State University in East Lansing, Michigan and completed internal medicine residency at University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. He completed fellowship in Hematology and Medical Oncology at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland, Ohio, in 2014, where he served as chief fellow from 2013-2014. Dr. Keng joined the University of Virginia in 2014. He lives with his wife and daughter and enjoys cooking, hiking, and travelling.

My name is Michael Keng. I'm a physician at the University of Virginia. I'm also the medical director for the inpatient hematology and oncology units, and also the quality officer for the division of hematology and oncology. The main patients that I see are patients with myeloid malignancies, so that includes patients with myelodysplastic syndrome, myeloproliferative neoplasms, acute myeloid leukemia, and acute lymphoid leukemia. One of the unique experiences that shaped my career is Medical Missions. I've participated in medical mission work in China several times. What we are able to do is to go see patients in the rural communities in China that basically have no access to medical care. When a new patient comes to the University of Virginia, what we can offer is a very personalized, but a team effort care that is very unique here. But what we also offer here is the most up-to-date clinical trials. We have upfront research from a laboratory standpoint, as well. What drives me is just the patients and their families. Every patient has a unique story. To be able to cry with a patient, to be able to hug, to celebrate with a patient just really makes me happy, and what gets me going each day.
