Bio & Overview

Mackenzie Trapp, MS, is a board-certified genetic counselor, who joined the UVA pediatric genetics team in 2020. She sees a broad range of pediatric, metabolic, and adult patients in both hospital and clinic settings. Additionally, Mackenzie is part of the team of experts that helps people with a family history of Huntington’s disease through the process of predictive testing. Children of a person with Huntington’s have a 50% chance of inheriting the disease-causing gene, and the first signs of the disease typically appear between ages 30 to 50.

Mackenzie was born and raised in Charlotte, North Carolina. She went to Appalachian State University, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in cell/molecular biology. Mackenzie received her master’s degree in genetic counseling from the University of Michigan and completed clinical internships at Michigan Medicine, ProMedica Health System, and UVA.

In her free time, Mackenzie enjoys reading, spending time with family and friends, and playing with her golden retriever.
