Bio & Overview

Martha Thomas is a genetic counselor who sees pediatric and adult patients who have or who are at risk of having a genetic predisposition to developing cancer and is a part of many specialty clinics following patients with hereditary cancer predisposition syndromes. She is one of the founding providers of Virginia's first Li-Fraumeni syndrome clinic, which follows patients from many states in the mid-Atlantic region.

In Virginia most of her life, Thomas attended UVA for her undergraduate degree. She went on to get her master’s degree in genetic counseling from VCU Health System. After some time working in San Antonio, Texas, Thomas returned to Charlottesville and worked at Martha Jefferson Hospital prior to coming to UVA in 2015. She also served as the Virginia Association of Genetic Counselors president from 2017-2019.

In her free time, Thomas enjoys the local food scene in Charlottesville and is active in dog fostering and rescue organizations. She also rings hand bells in her church's handbell choir and is an active UVA alum, attending as many sporting events as time allows!
