Minton Cooper, MD, is an orthopedic surgeon specializing in foot and ankle disorders at UVA. He earned his undergraduate degree from Washington and Lee University, and attended UVA for medical school. He then moved to Columbus, Ohio, for his internship and residency training at Ohio State University Medical Center. He completed the Idaho Foot & Ankle Fellowship at Saint Alphonsus hospital in Boise, Idaho, and then worked in private practice in Richmond for several years. Dr. Minton joined UVA as an assistant professor of orthopedics in April, 2014.

TRUITT COOPER: I'm Dr. Truitt Cooper, orthopedic surgery department here at UVA. I specialize in foot and ankle surgery. I think when I was in medical school, I decided that I sort of fell in love with orthopedics. And from there, during my residency, I just had the opportunity to work with some really great teachers in foot and ankle. And they sort of encouraged me to pursue that. Whenever I have a new patient, I think it's very important to just talk to them about who they are and what they do and what they need, you know, what are their goals in life, what are they trying to accomplish with their foot, and what do they need to get back to. And every patient is going to be different. But I think it's important to really identify with them and find out specifically whether they have a vacation in three months or a race that they want to run or they haven't been able to work and they need to get back to work. I think that's very important, because two people may have similar problems but due to whatever circumstances may have different needs of how to go about it. I like to help people. I think it's very rewarding to help someone feel better. The foot and ankle is really complicated and very interesting. Every patient that comes in has a different problem, and it's challenging. I think a patient would come to UVA, you know, with the expectation that they're going to get excellent service, excellent care from three fellowship trained foot and ankle orthopedic surgeons who've pretty much devoted their entire professional lives to caring for these types of problems. We'll try to individualize for the patient and listen to them and really work to get them as close back to 100% as possible.
