Very knowledgeable re: my illness. Answered questions well.

Just from a preop visit I got the impression that I was in good hands. Dr. Smith came highly recommended by other providers I see (and trust), as well as his patients reviewing him on the UVA site. He took the time to explain how he expected his recommended surgical treatment to help me. What my preparation, procedure and recovery would entail. What the alternatives are and the risks are. He involved me in the decision and answered all of my questions patiently and in terms I could understand. He explained throughout my ultrasound what he was seeing, and showed me what it looked like and explained how it confirmed his diagnosis. He reviewed my CT scans that had not yet resulted by a radiologist, and identified the area of concern and then his ultrasound confirmed exactly what he thought.

I was not happy regarding the response given to me regarding my visit. I was advised that there was no other options and the physician stated that there wasn't anything he could do for me. I need to go back to specialist that advised me the same response and I stated that I may have to advocate for myself and seek a second opinion since neither are able to confirm my diagnosis or why I am having trouble swallowing.
