I never fill out surveys like this but given that I'm moving and may have to transfer care to a doctor closer to me, I needed to say how much I've appreciated Dr. Spiegel's care. She listens to understand, rather than just to respond. She is thorough and doesn't make you feel as though she's rushing through your appointment. She asks questions rather than just assuming, and it is evident that she genuinely cares that the treatment you're receiving is helping. If it's not, she always has another plan to suggest. I have never felt so heard and that my concerns were being taken seriously by a doctor until I met Dr. Spiegel. I imagine if I told her all of this, she would say she's just doing her job. But there are a lot of doctors out there who are "just doing their job" and don't even begin to scratch the surface of the level of difference Dr. Spiegel is making in healthcare. I hope UVA Health has her train a lot of young doctors in the making, because the world needs more doctors like her.
