Rhoda Shulaw, ACNP

Rhoda Shulaw is a nurse practitioner in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery at UVA Health. She has worked in TCV surgery for 10 years; however, she has been in healthcare since the age of 15. She started out working as a home health aide, then worked as a nursing assistant, registration clerk, unit clerk, patient care assistant, registered nurse, and now nurse practitioner.

Ms. Shulaw was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, and lived in West Virginia the first 10 years of her life before moving back to Ohio. She attended Christ Hospital School of Nursing and was one of the few graduates from the last hospital diploma class. She then attended the University of Cincinnati for her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing. After earning her nurse practitioner certification she moved to Nashville and worked at Vanderbilt University for three years. She joined UVA Health in 2015.

Ms. Shulaw is an usher/greeter at her local church and also volunteers with AFS, an international exchange program. She hosted a German exchange high schooler for a year, and says it was the best experience of her life. She is an avid puzzler, and her last puzzle was 5,000 pieces. She has a heart for children and those in need.
