Bio & Overview
Rhoda Shulaw, MSN, ACNP-BC, is a nurse practitioner at UVA Health with experience in thoracic and cardiovascular surgery, anticoagulation management, and clinical informatics. She has been part of UVA Health since 2015 and has spent much of her career caring for patients with complex cardiovascular and surgical needs.
Rhoda has worked in healthcare since the age of 15. She began her career as a home health aide and later worked as a nursing assistant, registration clerk, unit clerk, patient care assistant, registered nurse, and nurse practitioner. This broad clinical background shaped her practical, patient-centered approach to care.
She earned her nursing diploma from The Christ Hospital School of Nursing and went on to complete both her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in nursing at the University of Cincinnati. After becoming certified as an acute care nurse practitioner.
At UVA Health, Rhoda has developed a strong interest in anticoagulation management, care standardization, and clinical decision support. She created and manages the HVC Warfarin Clinic and is involved in clinical informatics work focused on improving workflows, supporting evidence-based care, and making clinical tools more useful for healthcare teams.
Outside of work, Rhoda is active in her local church and enjoys volunteering at community health fairs, where she can connect with people, provide education, and support access to health information. Since 2018, she also serves as a foster parent, caring for children and teenagers who need safety, encouragement, and a place to belong. These experiences reflect her heart for service, advocacy, and caring for others both inside and outside of healthcare.
