Bio & Overview
Selena Blankenship, MSN, FNP-C, is a certified family nurse practitioner who works with the thoracic oncology team to care for patients with cancers of the lung and esophagus.
“I love caring for others. I get a real sense of pride and joy when I can make someone feel better,” she says.
An Amherst County, Virginia native, Selena knew at an early age that a career in the medical field was in her future. “I helped care for my ailing great-grandmother in a nursing home,” she says. “That is what originally sparked my interest in nursing.”
Selena received her nursing degree from the University of Lynchburg in 1999, and spent a majority of her early career in the outpatient setting. She returned to school in 2007 to pursue her Master’s degree, and graduated from UVA’s Family Nurse Practitioner Program in 2010.
She worked in a variety of clinical settings, from primary care to medical oncology, before returning to UVA Health in 2023.
In her free time, Selena enjoys biking, walking, running and cooking fresh from the garden just like her grandmother taught her.
