Bio & Overview
Sarah (Norris) Dalrymple, MD, is an associate professor in the Department of Family Medicine, and the associate program director for the UVA Family Medicine residency.
A native of Wilson, North Carolina, Dr. Dalrymple completed her undergraduate degree at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. She then graduated from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in Greenville, North Carolina, where she was elected to the Gold Humanism Honor Society and as the Chair of the Medical Student Council.
Dr. Dalrymple then moved to Charlottesville to complete her Family Medicine Residency training and Faculty Development Fellowship. After fellowship, she joined the faculty of UVA Family Medicine. In September 2022, she became the associate program director for the residency. Dr. Dalrymple’s clinical interests are broad. She revels in the diversity of family medicine and practices inpatient (hospital) and outpatient medicine at UVA Health, caring for patients whose ages span from 0 to 100 or more. She provides preventive care, including prenatal care and well-care for children, adolescents, and adults of all ages.
Dr. Dalrymple also partners with patients for the treatment of chronic diseases like depression, anxiety, and other mental health conditions, diabetes, and high blood pressure, as well as acute care like musculoskeletal injuries, rashes, and many others.
Dr. Dalrymple has completed training on creating safe, comfortable, and welcoming environments for LGBTQIA+ patients. Much of Dr. Dalrymple’s work is in education, primarily graduate medical education and mentoring. She advises the UVA Family Medicine resident-medical student mentoring program and directs the residency’s advising program. She enjoys helping resident physicians explore their career interests through individualized electives.
Dr. Dalrymple serves as the faculty mentor for the Housestaff Community Development Initiative through her role as the Associate Designated Institutional Official for Trainee Community. Dr. Dalrymple was awarded the James P. Charlton Teacher of the Year Award from the Virginia Academy of Family Physicians in 2024.
